Posted: April 10, 2019 Filed under: USkO | Tags: AIA, architecture, architecture month, Hawaii News Now Leave a commentArchitecture month has arrived – we hope you will join us for our aptly-themed sketch event at Punahou on April 20!
Don’t forget to register for the campus architecture tour ($15) by April 12 (this Friday) – contact Camilla (camilla@aiahonolulu.org) to secure a spot!
On a related note, I recently had the opportunity to be interviewed with AIA representative Jacy Youn about Architecture Month on Hawaii News Now. Below is a photo of me sitting on the set of the Sunrise show just after our segment. As you can see, I am still in shock from being on TV with
Guy Hagi!

Literary Distractions
Posted: December 15, 2018 Filed under: USkO | Tags: books, Da Shop, Kaimukī Leave a commentThe books almost distracted us from sketching! Some of us barely made it out of the store alive – “can we have everything in here?”.
This morning, we were welcomed into Da Shop, a recently opened bookstore in Kaimukī. To start us off, Emily introduced us to the store, Bess Press (publisher of the “Pidgin to da Max” books), and the warehouse behind the store. Then sketchers fanned out to draw the surrounding bookshelves, the shipping pallets in back, and the neighborhood. Show and tell quickly diffused into looking over the well curated selection of books.
Thank you to Emily and everyone at Da Shop for being such wonderful hosts and community members!

It’s a Wrap!
Posted: November 17, 2018 Filed under: USkO | Tags: Whole Foods Leave a commentToday’s fourth sketch event at a Whole Foods location, this time at the recently opened flagship store, completed our survey of the natural food chain and latest addition to the Amazon empire. Under cavernous ceilings, the 72,000-sqft store offered many sketch-worthy sights: stacks of cheese wheels, piles of fresh fruit, pyramids of hot sauces, and almost aerial views of the newly built-up neighborhood from the second-floor windows. We regretted that the parking garage was too far from our sketch location – its impressive “this stall is available” technology would have merited documentation. Show-and-Tell at our outdoor venue yet again brought together a diversity of scenes and styles. And was followed by lunch and coffee for some of us.
