Beautiful Day to be Sketching
Posted: March 26, 2022 Filed under: USkO 1 CommentThe sun was out. Today was the first day that face coverings were optional. We brought out our pencils and pens to meet on Pensacola Street.

Great group of sketchers today showing our urban sketching in the heart of Honolulu.
We walked or drove all over the block from the church across of McKinley HS to McDonald’s on Beretania. There was something to sketch for everyone: old buildings, new buildings, churches, busy streets, street signs, storefronts, and more.
Two groups of strangers stopped to compliment my sketch as I sketching from busy Pensacola and Beretania. I got to share a little about Urban Sketching. And that’s what urban sketching is all about.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on this beautiful day to be sketching!
And we’re back!
Posted: March 14, 2022 Filed under: USkO | Tags: urban sketchers, usk, USkO 1 CommentYES! We’re back.
Sorry for the long delay and blog vacation. Sometimes, you have to take a break from emails and the laptop and take time off for yourself and your family. Hope everyone is doing well.
Well, it’s time to get back at it and Christine has selected a great urban place to sketch.

She suggested Pensacola because it has a little bit of everything: retro buildings on Pensacola and King, McKinley High School, and a Buddhist-looking temple. Personally, I love the quaint storefronts in the area.
Let’s meet on the Ewa side of the Walgreen’s parking lot at 10am. Please refrain from parking in the retail lot and save those spaces for their customers. There’s plenty of street parking nearby. We’ll sketch from 10 to 11:30am and share our sketches 11:30 to noon.
If attending, please email us at uskoahu@gmail.com by Friday, March 25th with your name and phone number. We will retain the list for contact tracing purposes. Please be considerate of others around you and stay home if you feel sick.
Looking forward to sketching again IN PERSON on March 26th!
A special shout out to Pam and Ruth for sending their sketches from our last virtual event. It’s always fun to sketch together!

Let’s draw a car!
Posted: February 4, 2022 Filed under: USkO | Tags: usk, USkO, virtual sketch event 4 CommentsThank you to all who attended our last virtual demo with Christine. It was our biggest virtual turn out to date. I hope you all learned something valuable to add to your sketches.

By special request, Christine has offered to show us another demo.

I’m not sure what the construction method is but I’m curious to learn more. Aren’t you?
Sorry, it’s a little last minute. But I hope you can join us on February 12th at 10am. Please RSVP to uskoahu@gmail.com by February 9th and I will email you the link to join.
Hope you can join us. In the meantime, stay safe and happy sketching.
Terri
Let’s meet virtually
Posted: January 18, 2022 Filed under: USkO | Tags: usk, USkO, virtual sketch event 2 CommentsI’m sure you already guessed it. We’re not gathering together in person while the COVID-19 numbers are peaking.
Instead, Christine has volunteered to teach a class virtually: Point to Point sketching.

Point-to-point is focusing less on what you are driving and more on the line edges and angles. “Basically, you start with a line and you add your next line by comparing its angle and length with your first line. Rinse and repeat,” says Christine.
Please RSVP to uskoahu@gmail.com by January 24th and I will email you the link to join.
Hope you can join us. In the meantime, stay safe and happy sketching.
Terri

Capturing moments at Hawai’i International Film Festivals
Posted: November 20, 2021 Filed under: USkO | Tags: HIFF, urban sketchers, usk 2 CommentsToday we celebrate all artists: traditional (pen to paper) and digital (those who create magic in the 3D world). There’s always energy when artists gather and we can learn from one another when we open our eyes to innovation and creativity around us.
It’s been 5 long months since we, Urban Sketchers met on location so I thank you all who joined us today. It was fun seeing you and your wonderful sketches.
If you have time tomorrow, drop by the Entrepreneurs Sandbox in Kaka’ako to watch the coolest VR films at the Hawai’i International Film Festival. It’s free but you should RSVP to reserve a seat. Click here for more info.

One, because we will be meeting IRL (in real life)! I know, it’s been a long time since we’ve sketched together so we hope you are just as excited too. And two, we’ve been invited to amplify the Hawai’i International Film Festival (HIFF) XR (Extended Reality) New Media Exhibit on November 20th.

Let’s meet near the entrance of the Entrepreneurs Sandbox at 10am. For directions, click here. There is parking in the lot or metered street parking. We’ll sketch from 10 to 11:30am and share our sketches 11:30 to noon.

Let’s Support HIFF XR
Let’s support other artists by checking out the Augmented Reality (AR) pieces by the artists, including BREONNA’S GARDEN, BIG ORANGE FISH, THE BLUE BOAT, AWAKEN THE GIANTS: SINISTERIA VR, and THE GIRL AND THE CRANE. The event are free but RSVP is required. To see FRAGILE EARTH, no RSVP is required.

Sketch Together Worldwide
Posted: October 18, 2021 Filed under: USkO 1 CommentI don’t know about you, but my IG feed was full on Sunday, October 17th with inspiring urban sketches from around the globe. It was so fun to see large groups and individually sketchers sharing their view of their city streets, buildings, and other urban landmarks. What a global event for all of us!
Thank you to Susan, Pam, and Ruth for emailing your sketches.

For me, I decided to capture our quiet street in Mililani with watercolor and pen.

I encourage everyone to search #sketchtogether on Instagram and see everyone’s beautiful sketches. Thank you all who participated!
Keep Sketching,
Terri
