Wind and Water

T’was a windy and busy morning at Kailua Beach Park. Kayakers, paddlers, kite surfers, sunbathers – and sketchers, of course. We were delighted to be joined by four newcomers (including two very junior attendants who added greatly to the creativity on display). Show-and-tell featured musings about the agony of sketching pine-needle infused sand and our apparently universal fascination with tree stumps. We should have brought swim trunks.

Hoʻomaluhia

It was a busy day at the garden. Thanks to the park’s catch-and-release fishing program, crowds filed toward the pond with white bread and bamboo fishing poles. They made wonderful sketching targets to complement the views of the garden and the towering cliffs of the Koʻolau Mountains in the background. The visitor center and the campsite restroom added architectural elements to include. A range of subjects and sketching styles were admired at show-and-tell, with Kevin (on island just for a brief visit) attracting particular attention with a foray into miniature two-point perspective.

Boats and Beyond

Koko Marina Center did not disappoint as sketching subjects presented themselves in abundance. The vivid colors of the marina in front of a moody backdrop of ominous dark clouds. Tourists, diners, shoppers, divers, and––of course––boats up close. Many new faces joined the sketching fun––and those clouds never shed a drop of rain.

Hearty Hardy Sketchers
