Hi All! As you may have already guessed, the increase of new COVID-19 inflections on O’ahu is causing us to take a step back. As much as we would have liked to, we feel like it would be irresponsible to meet as a group, when so many in our community are falling ill and dying.

So for the next few Saturdays, we will be adding prompts for sketching. We may be apart, but we can still share our sketches together.

Date: Saturday, August 8, 2020
Location: Any place you feel safe
Theme: Same view at different hours. Pick a view and sketch it at different times of the day, capturing the light and shadow differences. Sounds fun? We hope so.

100!

Double-digit attendance (well, 10 qualifies, right?) marked our double celebration today: 100 USkO sketch events and the return of in-person sketching! A beautiful morning downtown made Hurricane Douglas look like fiction – although several sketchers mentioned the need to tie down or move loose belongings this afternoon. For the moment, however, our attention was on the confusing undulations of the Sky Gate sculpture and other views in the area. At a particularly social show-and-tell session our new chapter leaders (Terri, Bill, and Christine) received a warm welcome … and the outgoing administrators were treated to lovely presents. Here’s to the next 100!

On a more personal note: We admins have greatly enjoyed organizing events and sketching with everyone since holding our first gathering at Magic Island nearly 6 years ago. The three of us will still participate in events when we can and certainly be in touch from afar. We are thrilled by the enthusiasm of USkO’s new leaders and have no doubt that they will take the chapter to new heights!

Douglas won’t stop 100!

Our 100th sketch event is less than a week away! If you cannot carve time out of your morning to sketch or would prefer not to join in person, then please participate virtually anytime that weekend (07/25). Either way, we hope to see those sketches on Flickr! And, of course, the theme is: “Numbers”. Bonus points if you can find and sketch a #100. :)

USkO is Back!

Aloha fellow sketchers,

We are delighted to announce a couple of developments!

Before all, our next gathering will bring us to a big landmark:

Thank you, sketchers! To celebrate this achievement (and in response to the majority opinion expressed by you in the recent USkO survey), we would like to announce that our next event will be held in person on July 25 by the State Capitol. Details will follow in the event flyer.

Additionally, we want to take this opportunity to announce a change in USkO leadership and to introduce a new team of “administrators”. These will be familiar faces to all of you, and we are excited by their enthusiasm! More on all that later.

Celebrate #100! July 25. State Capitol. See you there!
